How to play Nonogram

Uncover a small picture, one deduction at a time. Use row and column clues to decide which squares to fill. All 19 puzzles are available from the selector, with no timer or score penalty.

  1. Each clue is the length of a consecutive group of filled squares. Read row clues left to right and column clues top to bottom. Separate consecutive groups by at least one empty square.
  2. For example, 2, 1 means two filled squares together, at least one empty square, then one filled square. Groups can begin anywhere along the line as long as every row and column agrees. A zero means the entire line is empty.
  3. Choose Fill to toggle a filled square, Mark to toggle an × for an empty square, or Erase to clear a square. You win when every filled square matches the solution; you do not need to mark every empty square.
  4. Clues change shade when the current filled groups match them. This is a count check, not a hint that each square is correctly placed.
  5. Undo reverses a cell edit. Reset clears the current puzzle and its Undo history after confirmation; other puzzles and previous completion records stay. Each puzzle has one independently checked solution and is solvable by row and column deductions without guessing.

Controls

The 19-picture pack has three practice groups: puzzles 1–8 are small-picture introductions, 9–16 a larger-picture sampler, and 17–19 cross-line practice. The last three stay 10×10 and use deductions that pass between rows and columns, including proved empty squares. These are purpose labels, not a calibrated difficulty ranking. Your boards and completion records stay only in this browser when storage is available. No account, cloud save or global ranking is used.

Progress is saved in this browser on this site when storage is available. Clearing site data can remove it. There is no cross-device sync, and internet access is needed to load the game.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use × marks?

No. They are optional notes for squares you have ruled out. A filled square in the wrong place prevents completion, but you do not need to mark every empty square.

Are these randomly generated puzzles?

No. These 19 original pictures form a fixed pack. Each has exactly one solution, checked with an independent exhaustive solver, and can be solved with line deductions without guesses.

What happens after the last puzzle?

The pack is complete. You can revisit any puzzle using the selector and reset it to play again. No additional levels are implied.

What if saving is unavailable?

A warning appears and you can keep playing in the current tab. Closing or reloading may lose progress. Private browsing, browser storage restrictions or clearing site data can remove saved boards.
