How to play Pattern Memory
Take a four-second look at a pattern on a 4×4 grid, then recreate it from memory. Five short rounds add up to one accuracy score, with no time limit while you recall.
- Watch the highlighted cells for four seconds. The pattern then disappears.
- Select the cells you remember. Select exactly the requested number of cells before confirming your answer.
- The five rounds contain 3, 4, 4, 5 and 6 target cells. Each correct target selection earns one point, for a maximum of 22.
- There is no recall timer and no speed bonus. Review the answer after each round before continuing.
Controls
- Tap or click a grid cell to select it during recall. Tap it again to deselect it.
- Use Tab to reach the controls and cells, then Enter or Space to activate a button.
- Confirm your selection when the required number of cells is selected. Continue after reviewing each answer.
- Leaving, hiding or reloading the page during a reveal ends it early. That attempt is marked interrupted, and the pattern is not shown again.
The daily pattern uses the UTC date and version 1 rules. Your first completed daily result is kept in this browser when storage is available; daily replays are separate. Practice gives you fresh patterns. No account or cross-device leaderboard is used.
Progress is saved in this browser on this site when storage is available. Clearing site data can remove it. There is no cross-device sync, and internet access is needed to load the game.
Frequently asked questions
When does the daily challenge change?
A new daily challenge is available at midnight UTC. A round already in progress keeps the date and patterns it started with.
Can I improve my recorded daily result by replaying?
Your first completed daily result stays recorded. You can replay the same daily patterns, but a replay does not replace that first result.
How is the score calculated?
Each correctly selected target cell earns one point. The five rounds contain 22 target cells in total, so a perfect challenge is 22 out of 22. Speed does not affect the score.
